UK Dog Insurance
UK Dog insurance is about much more than simply covering your veterinary fees in the event of your
puppy fully grown Yorkshire Terrier illness or injury.
Our policies provide cover for many other costs including cancellation of your holiday if your dog is ill, advertising
and reward cover if your dog is lost or stolen and, most importantly of all, our of our dog insurance policies provide
public liability protection which we will explain more fully here amongst other things.
Please seek legal council should you wish to clarify any points stated here. The notes on this website are for intended for discussion

Animal Welfare Act 2006:
The Animal Welfare Act of 2006 applies to dog owners in England and Wales, with Scotland having its own Welfare Act 2006. Basically the Act is there to ensure that pet owners ensure the health and welfare of their pets. This means that as a pet owner you have a duty of care to ensure that your pet be it a dog, cat or pony even receives a healthy diet, enough exercise for its particular breed of dog etc too. Also an owner had a duty to ensure that the animal is not mentally traumatised, made ill intentionally or mistreated in any way. Leaving your dog unattended/unsupervised for long periods of time could therefore also be viewed as a case of neglect under the newly revised laws.
Issues relating to health such as the required jabs for puppies are also covered as is the timely and appropriate medical provision should your dog become ill or need other medical care. All animal owners are expected to provide that level of care now and if found negligent can and most likely will be prosecuted! This also covers pet owners who let their animals become grossly overweight due to lack of exercise or over feeding.
Third Party Cover - Public Liability Pet Insurance:
If your dog causes damage to someone else's property, or runs into the road and causes an accident, you could find yourself liable to pay compensation to the affected parties. Costs such as these can spiral into the hundreds-of-thousands of pounds, and that is why public liability cover is essential. Our dog insurance policies provide a minimum of £1 million in public liability cover, ensuring you are not saddled with the bill should such an event occur.
Dog Collars Are A Legal Requirement:
Yes your dog must indeed wear a collar at all times in public. The Dogs Act 1906 states that a dog must wear a collar bearing its owner’s name and address.
Dogs Lost And Found:
Although the law requires that a dog must wear a collar with its owner's name and address on it, we realise that this does not often happen. Should a dog / stray dog be found the Local Council and Police should be notified. Many pet owners often only think to check with one or the other and should your dog run away, you may not think to notify the Police. The Police in turn may be in possession of your dog and likewise not know to contact you! Likewise, it's the same with the council. After 7 days you are likely to lose ownership rights to a dog the Police are in possession of and they may then rehome your pet.
